DEEMOxJEEF
Blending ambient textures, hypnotic grooves, and the unpredictable energy of improvisation, DEEMOxJEEF carves out a dreamlike, genre-defying soundscape that’s as cerebral as it is visceral.
This Ottawa-based project is the collaborative vision of jazz trombonist and keyboardist Nick Adema and sonic engineer and modular synth wizard Josh Yazbeck. Together, they explore the outer limits of live electronic music, merging acoustic elements with cutting-edge synthesis and effects processing to create something truly distinctive within the Canadian music scene.
Nick brings his deep roots in jazz and improvisation to the forefront, performing on both keyboard and trombone—each routed through an ever-shifting network of granular processing, bit crushing, delay manipulation, and other real-time effects. His expressive playing is both experimental and deeply human, bridging tradition and innovation.
Meanwhile, Josh sculpts sound through his custom Eurorack modular system, generating rich textures, intricate sequences, and reactive triggers that evolve organically in response to Nick’s performance. His approach to live electronics brings a fluidity and spontaneity that elevates each set into something immersive and unrepeatable.
